Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee in 1948, Robert Vail received his first camera at the age of 8 that sparked his lifelong interest in photography. Robert worked at IBM as an electrical engineer before moving into commercial photography, specializing in fashion and architectural work. For the past ten years he has studied under the tutelage of a master painter, studying the great artists of the past and how they command line, color, and form to achieve aesthetic perfection.

He captures images on nightly sojourns, finding the extraordinary in the most banal urban landscapes. He works in the computer to make paintings using these images as the heart of the finished work. The quiet beauty that is in these works is an integral part of his subconscious, inner life. These captured images in time are his visions as he walks the streets.
